Is a menstruating woman in Ramadan obligated to eat and drink, or should she abstain from that?
A menstruating woman must break her fast during her menstrual period and is not permitted to fast, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Is it not that when she menstruates, she neither prays nor fasts?" If she were to fast, that fast would not be sufficient for her. She must make up the days she missed from after her purity, based on the of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "That used to happen to us – meaning menstruation – during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we would be commanded to make up the fasts, but not commanded to make up the prayers."
