What is the ruling on one who swore an oath upon the Qur’an, and without the Qur’an, numerous times, to abandon a sin, then committed it, and intended that seventy expiations would be incumbent upon him if he broke his oath? And is it permissible for him not to swear an oath on anything again? And is it permissible for him to delay paying the expiation?

Swearing off a sin must be fulfilled, and breaking such an oath is forbidden. If one cannot find [the means], then fasting for three days. The expiation must be given immediately if the breaking of the oath was forbidden.
