What is the ruling on committing a sin that a person cannot abandon, despite acknowledging that it is unlawful?

Repentance from all sins is immediately obligatory. It is one of the important and emphasized fundamentals of Islam. It must be sincere and truthful repentance (Tawbah Nasuh) that erases evil deeds, and the person does not return to the sin. Sincere repentance includes encompassing all sins, having firm resolve and truthfulness in it, and purifying it from impurities and defects. There is no sin from which one cannot repent. One who persists in a sin while believing in its prohibition does not become a disbeliever; rather, he is considered among the people of Islam. His fate is subject to Allah's will: if He wills, He will punish him then admit him to Paradise, and if He wills, He will forgive him. Allah the Almighty has praised His servants who do not persist in their sins and has promised them forgiveness and Paradise.
