Is a son's leaving his parents' home due to the presence of indecent channels and films considered disobedience to parents?
Advising relatives and parents is obligatory, provided appropriate means are chosen, and respect for parents is maintained. Leaving the parents' home is not disobedience if your presence there harms your religion, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator." However, if there is no harm, and they forbid you from leaving the home, then their obedience becomes obligatory, along with the obligation to fulfill their due rights. Parents are to be shunned in matters of sin, while continuing to show them righteousness at all other times, as Allah the Almighty says: "But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness."
