What is the appropriate treatment for the problem of tale-bearing and instigating discord among relatives, and how can its effect on the marital relationship be avoided, and what is the authenticity of the hadith: "Two-thirds of the inhabitants of Hellfire are women"?

Slander (Namimah (definition)) is forbidden. It is the act of conveying speech with the intention of causing mischief. A slanderer will not enter Paradise. Therefore, you must not believe what is conveyed to you, and you should forbid the one who conveys it, and have a good opinion of the absent person, and avoid searching and spying. Do not tell your husband anything unless there is a necessity for it, and only to the extent of that necessity. Do not participate with them in backbiting (Gheebah) and slander, even by merely listening. Rather, forbid them and explain the sacred prohibition of such acts, and direct the conversation towards what is beneficial. If that does not work, then avoid sitting with them unnecessarily. As for the statement that two-thirds of the inhabitants of Hellfire are women, we do not know of a Hadith (definition) that states this explicitly. However, it has been reported that women are the majority of the inhabitants of Hellfire.
