Is anal intercourse with one's wife permissible and lawful, especially given the absence of a Quranic text that forbids it, and taking into consideration the generality of the verse: "Your wives are a place of cultivation for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish," and does this differ from the act of the people of Lot?

It is forbidden to approach a woman anally because of the Almighty's saying, "So approach them from where Allah has commanded you," and His saying, "Your women are a cultivated field for you, so approach your cultivated field however you wish." Also, due to the authentic prophetic traditions from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that explicitly prohibit it, such as the hadith: "Allah will not look at a man who has intercourse with his wife anally," and the hadith: "Whoever goes to a soothsayer and believes what he says, or approaches his wife during her menstruation, or approaches his wife anally, has disavowed what Allah revealed to Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him."

What has been attributed to some scholars regarding its permissibility is understood to mean approaching the woman in her vagina from the anal direction, and not actual anal intercourse. This act has been called "minor sodomy."
