Or is it sufficient to know that one is capable of declaring hatred for what they are upon without embarrassment when asked? And does one disbelieve if he is unable to establish his religion and does not emigrate, or is it a major sin?

It is sufficient to show animosity towards disbelievers for a disbeliever to know of your hatred for their religion and your detestation of them for the sake of Allah, without needing to verbally declare it. This does not contradict natural affection or being kind to them through filial piety, maintaining kinship ties, and good neighborliness, as affirmed by Allah's statement: (And accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness).
