How is the presence of jinn in a house inferred, and do jinn affect human behavior and the theft of their possessions?
It cannot be stated with certainty that something is a sign of the presence of jinn in a house. However, authentic hadiths mention that they can assume the forms of creatures like dogs and snakes. One might infer the presence of jinn from the occurrence of harm or the theft of belongings without a known cause, as in the story of the Companion who was killed by a snake, and the story of Abu Hurayrah with the thieving devil. A person afflicted by jinn possession may be affected in their behavior, and the jinn may speak through them. The most important thing is to fortify oneself with adhkar (remembrances) and supplications, and to keep sins away from the house.
