Is it permissible for my father to take the box of fruit that fell from a speeding car and he was unable to inform its owner?

If a Muslim finds food that is preserved (like dates), it is not permissible to eat it except after a year. However, if it is something that does not last (like fruits and vegetables), he has the choice either to eat it or to sell it and keep its price. It is not permissible to keep it lest it spoils. When its owner comes, he must pay him its value if he has eaten it, or return its price to him if he has kept it, or guarantee its value or its like if it perished due to his negligence.
