Ibn al-Hajj mentioned in "Al-Madkhal" that Omar ibn al-Khattab saw three men devoted to worship in the mosque. He asked the first: "From where do you eat?" He replied: "I am a servant of Allah, and He provides for me as He wills." Then he asked the second, who said: "I have a brother who gathers firewood and sells it, and he brings me what suffices me." Omar then told him: "Your brother is more devout than you." Then he asked the third, who said: "People see me and bring me what suffices me." So Omar struck him with his whip and told him: "Go out to the marketplace."
