What is the best dowry and the closest to the Prophetic Sunnah: Is it an amount of 1487.5 grams of silver, or simply a small and easy amount, or a small and easy amount restricted by custom, the dowry of her peers, and financial status?

The Sunnah (definition) is to lighten and facilitate the dowry, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best marriage is the easiest," and "The best dowry is the easiest." The dowry of the Prophet's wives, peace and blessings be upon him, was 500 dirhams, and the dowry of his daughters was 400 dirhams. Five hundred silver dirhams were equivalent to 50 gold dinars (212.5 grams).

It is more likely that the Sunnah regarding the dowry is to make it light, such that the objective of the Sharia (definition) in encouraging marriage is achieved, and it considers the people's circumstances, both ease and hardship. The Sharia did not specify a particular amount for the dowry; rather, it left the matter to what people agree upon, while encouraging facilitation. The spouses should agree on a suitable dowry that does not harm either party, and the easier it is, the better. A believer strives to marry off his female ward and a man strives to marry to avoid tribulations.

The important thing is your mutual agreement on the dowry, whether it is little or much, as long as the large amount does not burden the husband, and the small amount is accepted with the consent of the wife and her family.
