How can the remembrance of the Hereafter be something outwardly imposed, as stated in Ibn al-Jawzi's "Sayd al-Khatir"?

Ibn al-Jawzi means that the love of this world and inclination towards it are inherent in man. As for preferring the Hereafter, it is something beyond his nature and is achieved through God's guidance, the sending of messengers and scriptures, and His divine enabling. Ibn al-Qayyim explains that man, by nature, is created with deficiencies, ignorance, and injustice, and he will not escape the distraction of accumulation unless God purifies him and enables him to prefer the Hereafter.
