The answer

The recipients of are eight categories as mentioned in the Holy Quran: the poor, the needy, those employed to collect it, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, for freeing captives, those in debt, in the cause of Allah, and the wayfarer. The social reformer and guide may be given zakat if they fall under one of these eight categories, otherwise not. Scholars differed on the meaning of "in the cause of Allah." The majority restrict it to warriors (ghazat), while others believe it includes all aspects of righteousness and good. This latter opinion has been weakened by the argument that if it encompassed all aspects of righteousness, it would negate the benefit of specifying the other seven categories.
