Is it permissible to pay money to obtain a government job, especially if this is the only available means of employment?
Government positions are a common right based on eligibility and competence. The most competent and suitable individuals must be chosen without favoritism or bribery. It is permissible to intercede for a qualified person for a job, provided that this does not infringe upon the rights of others. As for paying money to an intermediary, if the intermediary is a person in authority or exploits their influence, then the money is a forbidden bribe. However, if the person is qualified and is prevented from their right unless they pay money, it is permissible for them to pay to obtain their right, and the sin falls upon the one who takes it.
