Who is the disbeliever that the angels of the grave will question about Allah and our Master Muhammad (peace be upon him), and he will not know how to respond? Is it the one who does not believe in Allah, or is it anyone who has sins?

The questioning by the two angels in the grave is a point of agreement for the people of the Qibla (Muslims) and the hypocrite. Disagreement has arisen regarding the questioning of the disbelieving denier. Ibn Hajar firmly asserted that the disbeliever is questioned, relying on authentic hadiths that explicitly state this. However, Ibn Abd al-Barr inclined to the view that the trial (questioning) is only for those who were among the people of the Qibla, and that the disbelieving denier is not questioned about his religion. Ibn al-Qayyim refuted him, providing evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah that the questioning is for both the disbeliever and the Muslim, and he mentioned proofs from the Qur'an and prophetic hadiths.
