Does the thief's liability cease if he returns the stolen money to its owner in installments, with the intention that it is his own money, without informing him? And what should one do if he stole money and does not know the whereabouts of its owners, and then gave it as charity on their behalf; will he be punished in the grave afterwards?

It is forbidden for a person to transgress against another's property, and he must return what he took, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The hand is responsible for what it has taken until it returns it." He is not required to declare the return of the money; rather, he should ask for her forgiveness and increase his kindness and benevolence towards her.
