What is the ruling on one who goes to a "soothsayer" to undo "black magic" by writing Quranic verses on a piece of paper and giving it to the afflicted person, and what is the stance of one who assists in that?
If the soothsayer dispels magic with magic, then it is not permissible to go to him nor to assist anyone who goes to him. And whoever does so has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad. And whoever goes to a soothsayer and asks him about something, his prayer will not be accepted for forty nights. As for writing the Quran and giving it to the sick, it is permissible according to some scholars, while others consider it impermissible because it falls under the general prohibition of amulets, and this is the stronger opinion.
