The preponderant opinion is that alcohol is impure (najis), and any coloring materials mixed with it become impure. Therefore, it is not permissible to dye with anything that contains alcoholic substances, because humans are commanded to be pure and avoid impurity. This is further emphasized if removing its trace is difficult, such as with dyes. As for the prayer of one who has dyed with something impure, it is valid, provided that the affected area is washed until the wash-water separates from it unchanged. So, if the color of the dye remains after washing, it is considered pure.
