What is the ruling on performing ablution with contaminated, yet not ritually impure (najis) water?

Wudu’ (ablution) with contaminated water is forbidden, due to the Prophet’s saying: "There should be no harm or reciprocating harm." However, the wudu’ of someone who performs it with such water is valid, though their act is forbidden due to the harm they inflict upon themselves.
