Is aborting a fetus in the seventh month due to severe deformities a grave sin that necessitates expiation, and what is the expiation in this case?

Abortion is forbidden in Islam; it is an assault on a soul created by Allah. The prohibition becomes more severe if it occurs after the ensoulment, and it is considered killing a soul unjustly. Abortion is not permissible due to fetal deformity, or calcium or iron deficiency. The only exception to this is if a reliable medical report confirms that the mother's life is in imminent danger.

The act of your brother, his wife, and the doctors is a grave sin, and they must repent to Allah. If the abortion occurred after ensoulment, they are obligated to offer a ghurrah (a male or female slave). If not available, they must pay one-tenth of the mother's blood money, to be distributed among the heirs who did not participate in the abortion.

Scholars have differed on the obligation of fasting two consecutive months for those who commit this sin. The phrase "Allah Almighty willed" should be used instead of "destiny willed."
