What is the ruling on the supplication invented by one of the shaykhs of the Sufi orders, which states: "O Allah, send Your most perfect prayers and Your most complete peace upon our Master Muhammad, the ocean of generosity, the treasure of existence, the axis of witness, the human eye of existence, and the pervasive secret in all existence, by the number of Allah’s manifestations in existence; a prayer by which You open for us every door in the fields of knowledge, and by which You remove every veil from our hearts, and by which You facilitate for us the journey towards You, and by which You uproot from our hearts the roots of otherness, so that nothing remains for us in existence but Your existence, and in witness but Your witness; and by which You raise our ranks, and by which You make our times pleasant, and by which You make us happy in life and after death, and by which You guide our hearts and pour upon them from the hidden knowledge of the unseen, so that they may increase thereby in certainty, firmness, and empowerment; and by which You clothe us with the greatest garment of success in acting according to Your sacred law, and the highest robe of the light of Your most holy splendor; and by which You crown us with the crown of Your sublime love and the continuous yearning for Your exalted presence, so that we may merit from You in both abodes honor and death upon faith, without harmful adversity or misleading temptation; and upon his family, his companions, and those who follow them in excellence until the Day of Judgment. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds"?
The mentioned wording contains phrases that could imply a false meaning, such as the unity of existence (wahdat al-wujud), and even if it could imply a correct meaning, it is better to avoid it because it suggests falsehood. Love for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is shown by following him, not by elaborate phrases. The Companions were the people who loved him the most, and such elaborate expressions were not narrated from them. It is more appropriate for a Muslim to follow the Salaf and adhere to what is transmitted in acts of worship. It is permissible to use a wording other than the transmitted one for sending prayers upon him, provided that it does not contain anything forbidden, and that one does not believe it to be a or commit to it and consistently observe it until it becomes a Sunnah, though it is better to avoid it and adhere to what is authentically reported from him, peace and blessings be upon him.
