Does the verse, "They will say, 'Woe to us! Who has resurrected us from our sleeping place?'" contradict the torment of the grave? And was the black, turbid spring mentioned in the Qur'an? And is asking such questions a sin?

The reconciliation between their saying: (Who has resurrected us from our sleeping place?) and their being tormented in their graves is that the torment will be lifted from them between the two blasts, or that they thought they were asleep due to the terror that befell them.

As for the muddy spring [or, hot spring] in which Dhul-Qarnayn saw the sun set, it has been said that it was a spring full of black mud and clay, and it has been said that it was hot, or combined both. It has also been said that when Dhul-Qarnayn reached the shore of the ocean, he saw it as such in his view, because when a person is at sea, they see the sun as if it is setting into it.
