What must a girl do after her fornication has been exposed and she has repented? Should she deny the crime for the sake of concealment, or would that be an injustice? And does her sincere repentance nullify the prescribed punishment for fornication?

We congratulate the sister on her repentance and rectitude, and we advise her to be wary of anything that might lead her back to sin. It is impermissible for a Muslim to defame his brother, especially after his repentance. The young man has sinned by exposing the sister. She may use dissimulation (tawriyah) or outright lying out of necessity. If the young man does not cease spreading rumors, she may refer the matter to the Sharia court to demand the hadd punishment for slander against him, even if he knew about her fornication, as long as she has repented, because he has corrupted her honor. She is not obliged to refer her matter to the ruler, for her repentance suffices her.
