What is the ruling on reciting the Quran for a fee upon the occurrence of illness, the birth of a child, or the death of a person, and does the recitation reach the deceased?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to recite the Quran for money, nor to be hired for it, because this was not transmitted from the righteous predecessors. Furthermore, if the reciter recites for money, there is no reward for him, and thus nothing reaches the deceased. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded whoever recites the Quran to ask Allah by it, and warned against asking people.
