Is it permissible to use an electronic counter in prayer to keep track of the number of prostrations (sujud) and cycles (rak'ahs), and is it better to publish the method of its creation online?

A Muslim should approach prayer with humility and presence of heart, and not be distracted from it by anything. Counters and the like can divert a worshipper from their prayer and strip it of its spirit. Although the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the removal of anything that distracts from prayer, some scholars have permitted the use of aids to remember the number of rak'ahs for those who frequently forget, such as throwing pebbles or date pits. However, it is advisable to abandon electronic counters and instead focus on humility and presence of heart.
