What is the guidance of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, concerning the Maghrib prayer in Ramadan? And did he eat something light and then pray, or did he complete his meal? And what is the ruling on a community delaying the Maghrib prayer in Ramadan, in congregation at the mosque, by half an hour, based on the hadith: "No prayer in the presence of food"?
The guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding eating in general and breaking the fast in particular, revolved around three matters: breaking the fast with fresh dates (rutab), and if not available, then dried dates (tamr), and if not available, then drinking water. Hastening to break the fast immediately upon sunset. Not filling the stomach with food and drink, but rather sufficing with what sustains one.
The time for Maghrib prayer extends until just before the disappearance of twilight. If delaying the prayer for half an hour does not cause its time to expire, then there is no harm in that, though it is preferable to perform it at the beginning of its time. The prohibition against praying in the presence of food does not necessitate this specific delay.
