Why do some insist on the authenticity of hadiths that portray the Prophet, peace be upon him, as if he used to curse and insult, despite the existence of other hadiths that forbid obscenity and call for self-control when angry, and despite the fact that this contradicts his being an excellent example and the noble verse: (Do you enjoin righteousness upon people and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Then will you not reason?) Al-Baqarah/44, and prefer that over acknowledging the existence of false hadiths in the Two Sahihs?

Prophets are human; they experience what humans experience, including victory and error. This does not necessitate impugning their prophethood. Allah indeed admonished our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, in the Noble Qur'an in more than one instance, which indicates his humanity. The purpose of mentioning these slips in the Qur'an is not to criticize or disparage the prophets, but rather to show Allah's forgiveness towards them, and for it to serve as an example for the Ummah in seeking forgiveness and repentance, and to demonstrate that absolute perfection belongs to Allah alone. Furthermore, his anger, peace and blessings be upon him, was a mercy and a reward for those upon whom he became angry.
