Is it permissible to seek divorce from a husband who does not pray, evades fulfilling promises, mistreats his wife, in addition to his wife's physical aversion to him?
We advise you to strive to reform your husband and help him become upright, especially regarding maintaining prayer and the cleanliness of his body and mouth. If he responds and treats you kindly, then thank Allah and treat him in kind. But if he does not respond, there is no sin upon you in leaving him through divorce or khulu'. If a woman dislikes her husband due to his character, conduct, religion, old age, or weakness, and she fears that she will not be able to fulfill Allah's right in obeying him, then it is permissible for her to seek khulu' from him in return for compensation to free herself.
