No reason for the revelation (sabab nuzul) of Surat An-Naml has been mentioned in the commentaries (tafsirs) or books on the reasons for revelation, and most of the Qur'an does not have a mentioned reason for its revelation. The subject matter of the surah resembles that of Surat Ash-Shu'ara and Al-Qasas, and it is situated between them in the order of the Mus'haf and in terms of revelation. It completes the stories of prophets like David and Solomon and elaborates on the stories of Moses, Salih, and Lot. These surahs are similar in their opening with the disjoined letters (Taa, Seen, Meem; Taa, Seen) and in describing the Qur'an and its revelation from God.
