The answer

One should not abandon voluntary fasting merely because it coincides with a day whose individual fasting is disliked. So, if someone is accustomed to fasting and it happens to fall on a day whose fasting is disliked, they should still fast. It is recommended to fast on the Day of Ashura, adding the ninth day to it, in opposition to the Jews. If Ashura falls on a Saturday, then fasting the ninth day becomes even more emphasized, because this day is revered by the Jews in two respects. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If I live until the next year, Allah willing, we shall fast on the ninth day."
