Is it permissible to marry secretly for fear of falling into vice, given the mother's refusal due to poor financial circumstances?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Falling into indecency (fahisha) is among the greatest major sins after polytheism (shirk) with Allah and unlawfully killing a soul. And every organ has its share of fornication, as stated in the Hadith. If a marriage fulfills its pillars, it is no longer a secret marriage. It is possible to combine chastity with not disobeying the mother by marrying in accordance with the conditions, without the mother's knowledge if possible. However, if it is impossible to combine a valid marriage with the mother's consent, and obeying the mother would lead to falling into indecency, then get married; because obedience to the mother is only obligatory in what is good and permissible. You must strive to convince her of the necessity of marriage, and that difficult financial circumstances do not justify abandoning it for one who fears falling into vice. Remind her of the Hadith: "There are three whom Allah is duty-bound to help...the one who marries seeking chastity."
