What is the prostration that Allah accepted from David (peace be upon him), which is mentioned in the supplication of prostration of recitation with the words: "...and accept it from me as You accepted it from Your servant David"?

The prostration intended is that mentioned in the Quran in His Almighty's saying: "And David realized that We had tried him, so he sought forgiveness from his Lord and fell in prostration and turned in repentance." It came in the Hadith (definition) with the word "prostration," and in the Quran with the word "bowing" (ruku'). David performed this prostration in repentance. Abu Dawud mentioned that the Prophet prostrated it on the minbar. When people became eager to prostrate, he said: "It is but the repentance of a prophet."
