Is it permissible to supplicate for people of innovation (Ahl al-Bid'a), asking for their success in worldly matters such as sustenance and offspring, while not loving them, yet seeing a good side in some of them, and supplicating for them with good intention?
Innovations (bid‘ah) are divided into those that entail disbelief (kufr) and those that entail open disobedience (fisq). Those who commit innovations that entail disbelief are disbelievers. It is not permissible to pray for worldly benefits for them if they are belligerent. However, if they are not belligerent, there is no harm in doing so. If this is permissible for a disbeliever, then it is even more so permissible for a disobedient believer.
