What is the interpretation of Allah Almighty's saying: "And when the anger subsided in Moses, he took up the Tablets; and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who fear their Lord"?

Moses' anger subsided because he witnessed his people worshipping the calf. The tablets he took were the tablets of the Torah, which he had cast away in his intense anger. Commentators differed on the meaning of "in their written form" (في نسختها). Some said it refers to tablets copied from the Preserved Tablet, others said it means another set of tablets after the original ones were broken, and still others said it refers to what remained of them. The meaning of "guidance and mercy" is that guidance is the opposite of error, and mercy is the opposite of punishment. "For those who fear their Lord" means they are afraid, and the fear of Allah is a reason for benefiting from revelation.
