The answer

Ibn Manzur mentioned in Lisan al-Arab that "al-sha'fah" means an ulcer or a tumor that appears on the foot or hand. It can also mean "the root" or "origin," from which the phrase "May Allah uproot their sha'fah" is derived. It was also said that it means "enmity," or "a man's family and wealth." It is narrated in Kanz al-Ummal from Abdullah ibn Amr that there was a "sha'fah," meaning a pimple, on the neck of Adam (peace be upon him).
