How can the statement that Almighty Allah has a "self" (nafs) in His sayings: "And Allah warns you of Himself" (Quran 3:28) and "And I chose you for Myself" (Quran 20:41) be reconciled with the saying: "Every soul shall taste death" (Quran 3:185)?

The Muslim's duty concerning the chapter of Names and Attributes is to affirm whatever Allah Almighty has affirmed for Himself, or whatever His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, has affirmed for Him, while believing that "There is nothing like unto Him." The word "Nafs" (Self/Essence) is affirmed for Allah Almighty in the Quran and Sunnah, as in His saying, the Most High: (And Allah warns you of His Self), and (You know what is in My Self, and I do not know what is in Your Self), and the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him, in the sacred hadith: (Indeed, I have forbidden injustice upon My Self), and (If he remembers Me to himself, I remember him to Myself). The meaning of "Nafs" here is the sacred Essence of Allah Almighty, and it is not a separate attribute like hearing and sight. It is also more appropriate for use than the word "Dhat" (Essence/Being).
