What is the ruling on the malicious fantasies a wife experiences concerning the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and how can she rid herself of these intrusive thoughts and fantasies, and what is the path to repentance from them?

As long as the wife dislikes those whispers (waswas) and recoils from them, they will not harm her in any way. Rather, her dislike and repulsion are signs of the soundness of her faith. The Companions complained to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about what they found within themselves and disliked speaking about, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to them: "That is pure faith." Imam al-Nawawi explained this by saying that the عظيمة (regarding as great/serious) of these whispers and the fear of them is a sign of the completeness of faith, and that Satan whispers to those whom he despairs of misleading.

The wife should be reassured and know that she will not be held accountable for these whispers. She should strive to ignore them and not pay attention to them, and she should seek refuge in Allah and say, "I believe in Allah and His messengers" whenever any of these whispers occur to her. She will be rewarded for her struggle to free herself from them.
