How do we reconcile between having a good opinion of Allah when performing acts of obedience and supplicating for acceptance, and the Prophet's explanation of the verse: "And those who give what they give while their hearts are trembling" (23:60) as referring to those who perform acts of obedience and yet fear that they will not be accepted from them, and which of the two is better for the believer?

The believer combines fear and hope in their worship, being both fearful and hopeful in their devotion. Fear predominates during life, while hope prevails at the time of death. In addition to these, there is a remembrance of God's greatness and His blessings. Fear of non-acceptance does not mean asserting it, but rather not relying on one's deeds and complete dependence on God's mercy, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "None of you will enter Paradise by his deeds." It is recommended to always combine fear and hope to avoid feeling secure from God's plan and despairing of His mercy. Fear is often dominant in health, and hope in illness, or hope predominates when performing acts of obedience, and fear when contemplating disobedience.
