Does a person's fortune change or does it remain as it was from birth? Can good deeds improve a person's fortune? And if everything is predetermined, were we created only to worship God and embody what has been written for us?

A person's "luck" is their share of good and evil, by Allah's decree and destiny. Allah recorded all destinies fifty thousand years before creating the heavens and the earth. Then, while a person is in their mother's womb, their sustenance, lifespan, and deeds are written.

Destiny is of two types: qada' mubarram (an eternal, unchangeable decree) and qada' mu'allaq (a suspended decree, recorded in the angels' scrolls, which can be erased or affirmed based on causes). The latter explains the verse: "Allah erases what He wills and affirms [what He wills], and with Him is the Mother of the Book," and the Hadith: "Nothing repels destiny except supplication, and nothing increases lifespan except righteousness."

Among the causes that change suspended destinies are: supplication (du'a), charity (sadaqah), maintaining ties of kinship ("Whoever wishes that his provision be expanded and his life extended, let him maintain ties of kinship"), and seeking forgiveness (istighfar) ("Why do you not seek forgiveness from Allah that you may receive mercy?"). Taqwa (piety) towards Allah and steadfastness in obeying Him are among the reasons for a person's happiness. Allah says: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect." The belief in divine decree and destiny does not negate the servant's choice and will.
