If the wife's statement is considered definitive in determining the dowry, then the husband can agree with her on a specific amount that differs from what he agreed upon with her guardian. In this case, he is only bound by what the wife has specified. However, if the guardian's statement is considered definitive, and the husband agreed with him on an amount, then the mature and رشيدة (of sound judgment) wife may waive all or part of the dowry when it is due, because the dowry is her exclusive right. One must be wary of exaggerating dowries due to the corrupting effects that result from it.
