What is al-Hikam al-Ata'iyyah?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Oct 24, 2026
Al-Hikam al-Ata'iyyah is a book of Sufi admonition and spiritual refinement. Although cleaner than others, it is not free from the Sufi leaning in its allusions to (Oneness of God) and its exposition of the principles of the Sufi path. Therefore, it is considered one of the Sufi books. The early Imams forbade books by authors with a better methodology than the author of Al-Hikam, such as Al-Harith al-Muhasibi. Abu Zur'ah, for instance, said to someone who asked about Al-Muhasibi's books: "Beware of these books; these are books of innovation and misguidance. Adhere to the Athar (tradition)."
