Why did Allah mention parents in the supplication, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents"?

The supplication, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve," is mentioned twice in the Qur'an: the first instance is on the tongue of Solomon, peace be upon him, in Surat An-Naml, where the mention of parents serves to amplify or generalize the favor. The second instance is in Surat Al-Ahqaf, where the supplication follows the injunction to be kind to parents, demonstrating the appropriateness of mentioning them as part of their dutifulness and gratitude. This supplication expresses a request for Allah's help to increase kindness towards parents and to show gratitude for His blessings upon oneself and upon them. This is an ongoing matter, even after reaching maturity, as a person is asked not to let the burdens of life distract them from being kind to their parents and supplicating for them.
