There is no impediment to copying tapes of knowledge and the Quran for personal use, unless their producer has spent a great deal of money in their production and the copying causes him significant financial harm. In such a case, copying is prohibited to the extent that it prevents the harm. This differs from taking payment for teaching the Quran or Hadith, because the teacher or narrator expends their time and effort, whereas one who delivers a lecture or recites verses and then prevents people from copying them should not be heeded unless he incurs financial harm.
