The phrases "I ask you by God" (بالله عليك) and "I ask you by God" (أسألك بالله) are not considered oaths unless the speaker intends them as their own oath. In that case, an expiation () becomes obligatory if they break it. However, if the speaker does not intend it as their own oath, but rather as an intercession, or as an oath for the person being addressed, or if it is uttered without specific intent, then it is not considered an oath.
