The answer

A Muslim is not permitted to deposit his money in a usurious bank, whether with or without interest, except if there is a fear of the money being stolen or lost and no Islamic bank is available. It is permissible to buy shares in companies, provided that they do not engage in forbidden dealings such as usury. If a company is compelled to deposit funds in a usurious bank for safekeeping, reference should be made to Fatwa No. 39238. There is no objection to the bank taking commissions for a service it performs.
