Is it permissible to disbelieve any news from any source on the Internet, on the grounds that it is merely statements and opinions without tangible proof?

The news of a trustworthy Muslim is deemed truthful, whereas the news of someone whose state is unknown is not. This is based on the Almighty's saying: ﴿O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate﴾. Thus, if a person is disobedient or of unknown state, their news must be verified until its authenticity is confirmed. Al-Qasimi, in his interpretation of the verse, rejected the news of the disobedient and stipulated justice (عدالة) in the one who conveys information. Moreover, some scholars refrained from accepting the narration of someone whose state is unknown due to the possibility of their disobedience, while others accepted it because their disobedience is not confirmed. Therefore, a Muslim must be vigilant and verify published news, especially on social media, so as not to fall into recklessness or spread baseless information.
