What is the ruling on ululating when the funeral procession departs?

Raising one's voice with the funeral procession, whether in dhikr or otherwise, is not recommended according to the general consensus of scholars. Rather, what is narrated from the Companions and the Tabi'un is that they honored the deceased with tranquility. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade accompanying the funeral procession with a loud voice or fire. Scholars of Hadith and Athar have agreed that raising the voice was not practiced during the era of the three favored generations. What is recommended is to lower one's voice when walking with the funeral procession, so that they do not engage in anything other than contemplation of the deceased. Ululations (zagharid) upon the departure of the funeral are disliked because they contradict the guidance of the pious predecessors.
