Is the one who consumes usury—expelled from the mercy of God according to the Hadith that curses the one who consumes usury, its giver, its scribe, and its two witnesses—among those whose prayers, fasting, or charity are not accepted, and is this Hadith authentic?

Usury (riba) is one of the major sins and one of the seven destructive sins. Its perpetrator is threatened with damnation, but it does not expel him from the fold of Islam. The deeds of a usurer are acceptable if they are sincere and in accordance with the Sharia. There is no connection between the validity of prayer and the commission of usury. One must beware of usury because it heavily weighs down the scale of misdeeds on the Day of Judgment and diminishes the reward of good deeds.
