Is it obligatory to repeat past ritual baths (ghusl) and prayers due to not washing the mouth and nose, based on the differing opinions of jurists regarding their obligation, and which opinion should be followed now?
The fatwa we adopt is that rinsing the mouth and nose are Sunnah acts. Even according to the opinion that they are obligatory, the presence of the aforementioned residue does not invalidate the validity of rinsing, because according to the Hanbalis, who consider them obligatory, it is achieved by merely swirling the water in the mouth, as Al-Bahuti said: "What is obligatory in rinsing the mouth is the slightest swirling of water in one's mouth." Based on this, the previous ghusl is valid.
