How can mercy be a created thing when it is one of Allah Almighty's attributes, or is it created and yet one of His attributes, based on the noble Hadith: "Indeed, Allah created mercy the day He created it, one hundred mercies..."?

The mercy attributed to Allah is of two types:

1. Uncreated mercy: This is an attribute of Allah Almighty.

2. Created mercy: This is attributed to Allah as an effect to its cause, and it includes Paradise, rain, and the like, as in the Hadith: "So He (Allah) said to Paradise: 'You are My mercy, with which I show mercy to whom I wish,'" and His (peace be upon him) saying: "Allah created mercy the day He created it as one hundred mercies."

The supplication "Allahumma ijma'na fi mustaqarr rahmatik" (O Allah, gather us in the abode of Your mercy) is permissible, and what is meant by it is the created mercy, which is Paradise, and not an attribute of Allah Almighty. As for "Bi rahmatika astagheeth" (By Your mercy I seek aid), what is meant by it is an attribute of Allah Almighty.
